Safe checks before scheduling service
- Confirm COOL mode rather than FAN-only operation.
- Check the filter and accessible vents.
- Make sure the outdoor unit has power and is not packed with debris.
- Note whether airflow is strong but warm, or weak and warm; that distinction helps diagnosis.
- Avoid adding refrigerant or opening sealed-system components yourself.
If you encounter exposed wiring, smoke, a gas odor, a carbon-monoxide alarm, or another immediate safety concern, stop troubleshooting and follow the appropriate emergency guidance.
